My name is Robert Fritz and I am a graduate student in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Indiana University.  After completing a couple of semesters of basic Portuguese, I wanted to take my language proficiency to the next level by visiting Brazil.  A brief internet search turned up Dialogo Language School in Salvador, Bahia.  From the moment I contacted the staff at Dialogo they were very helpful and efficient in providing me with all the information I needed to enroll in their program.  I had received a grant from my university to fund my studies there and Gisele Reis, the director, provided me with all the information I needed to meet my grant requirements.  She and the rest of the staff at Dialogo customized my program of study to suit my needs and my level of language proficiency so that I could get the most out of my lessons.  I was impressed by the quality of instruction.  My teachers taught me advanced grammar concepts and provided me with written and spoken exercises to practice my new found knowledge.  Group lessons provided a context in which to apply what I learned and individual lessons provided me with the opportunity to focus on particular topics.  By the end of my six weeks at Dialogo, I was speaking Portuguese better than ever and I was more than satisfied with the results.  I have returned to Indiana University where I am currently enrolled in a 500-level Portuguese literature class. I am able to understand and participate in all class discussions because of my experience at Dialogo.  My teachers there prepared me well!

Besides providing a quality classroom experience, Dialogo offers many other services of interest to visitors to Bahia.  They arranged for me to stay in a nice hostel that was only a few minutes from the school on foot and also near the beach.  The staff organized numerous excursions so that the other students and I could familiarize ourselves with the city.  While I was there I participated in a boat trip to the islands of the bay, a tour of the Pelourinho, a performance of the folklore dance troupe of Bahia, and a Brazilian cooking class. I met a lot of locals, too, by going to a cultural exchange organized by the staff.  Dialogo was also the ideal location for a lone traveler like myself to meet other people from all over the world and make friends quickly.

Throughout my time at Dialogo I received professional and friendly service.  Everyone there took a very personal approach to making sure my experience was the best it could possibly be.  Thank you Dialogo!
